Pregnancy Care
Mothers to be have a lot on their mind and pain shouldn’t be one of them. We have years of experience supporting women who want to be as healthy as possible and know that they are doing everything they can to ensure that their child develops properly.
The last thing you want to deal with when you’re expecting is pain, yet not only is it common it’s anticipated!
Changes such as shifting and stretching should occur, but substantial pain is a different story.
Pregnancy is a unique time in a woman’s life that has so much potential, but it also creates distinctive stresses that can be very difficult to handle. During all of pregnancy, hormones are released to loosen ligaments throughout the mother’s body, so she can provide an optimal space for her baby to develop, and so that after 9 months the baby can exit her body in a safe and beneficial way. The downside of looser ligaments, is her body doesn’t hold itself together the way it usually does, and if the spine and pelvis aren’t functioning optimally it results in pain, stiffness and damaged tissues. In addition to this, the mother’s centre of gravity steadily shifts forward as the baby grows, accentuating these tissue stresses even more. Finally, we can’t forget what’s most important – the baby! Chronic pain, nerve and spinal malfunction the mother experiences, affects the baby’s development in a myriad of ways, as well as the birth itself. We know how important it is for the baby and mother to have an easy natural birth, with as few complications as possible.
Regular chiropractic adjustments not only help a mother’s spine and nerves function better, but they can be game-changers for pelvic function, for breathing, posture, pain relief… so many things. Not only do we find that when the mother is moving and well, the chance of a natural birth is higher, (which is so important for a baby’s immune system, head shape, spinal health and many other areas) , but the birth itself tends to be much easier for both the mother and baby, (having a huge impact on a baby’s healthy development, the mother’s wellbeing and of course the relationship between mother and child) .
